About fixpricer

fixpricer helps U.S. homeowners figure out what a repair should cost before they call a contractor, and whether a quote they already have is in a reasonable range.

Why we built this

We’re a small team that works in and around home improvement, and we’ve all been through renovations on our own homes. Again and again we hit the same wall: a quote arrives, and there’s no honest way to tell if it’s fair. The national averages online are too broad to be useful, many “cost guides” exist mainly to collect your phone number for contractors, and almost none of them show how the number was built.

So we decided to build the cost guide we wanted to read: one that breaks a price into materials, labor and extras, adjusts labor to your state, and shows every source and date so you can check the math yourself.

Who we are

Guides on fixpricer are written and maintained by the fixpricer Editorial Team. We research material prices, collect wage data, build the calculators and keep every figure up to date.

We don’t claim expertise we can’t show. Instead of asking you to trust our judgment, every guide is built from data you can check: retail shelf prices, federal wage statistics, published industry benchmarks and the prices installers publish themselves. Each figure links to its source and shows the date we checked it.

What we cover

We’re starting with projects that tend to show up together: water in and around the home.

  • Gutters: installation, gutter guards and per-foot pricing.
  • Basement and crawl space: waterproofing, French drains and encapsulation.
  • Sump pumps: installation and replacement.

We publish slowly on purpose, a few guides a month, so each one can be researched and checked properly.

How the site is funded

fixpricer is (and will remain) free to use, supported by display advertising rather than by contractors. Advertisers have no say in what we publish and never influence a number. We don’t sell leads, we don’t pass your details to contractors, and no calculator asks for your phone number or email.
